Liverpool have reportedly not offered Mohamed Salah a new contract because of his demands. The Reds are unwilling to accept his request for a long-term contract.
As per a report in TBR Football, Salah is keen on staying at Liverpool but wants a three-year deal on his table. The former Chelsea and AS Roma star is open to accepting a two-year deal with the option of a third, but the club are yet to make a decision.
The report added that Salah wants the optional third year to depend on his performance or minutes played. There are no increased demands in terms of wages, as his current contract fetches him £350,000 per season.
However, FSG are concerned about offering the Egyptian a long-term deal as he is already 33 years old. They do not see value in offering him a three-year contract for the same wages and see it as a risk for the club.
The report added that apart from the length of the contract, several other issues are blocking an agreement with the player for his extension. He has been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League. Reports have suggested that Cristiano Ronaldo wants him at Al-Nassr and that Al-Ittihad and Al-Hilal have always been interested.
Mohamed Salah disappointed with no contract from Liverpool
Mohamed Salah spoke to the media after Liverpool's 3-2 win against Southampton in the Premier League (Sunday, November 24) and said he was disappointed at the lack of contract talks. He claimed that the plan is to stay at Liverpool, but given the situation, he will likely leave at the end of the season.
Salah said (via GOAL):
"We are almost in December and I haven’t received any offers yet to stay in the club. I’m probably more out than in. You know I have been in the club for many years. There is no club like this. But in the end it is not in my hands. As I said before, it is December and I haven’t received anything yet about my future. I love the fans. The fans love me. In the end it is not in my hands or the fans’ hands. Let’s wait and see.”
He added:
"Of course, [I'm disappointed] yeah. I’m not going to retire soon so I’m just playing, focusing on the season and I’m trying to win the Premier League and hopefully the Champions League as well. I’m disappointed but we will see. I’m very professional. Everybody can see my work ethic. I’m just trying to enjoy my football and I will play at the top level as long as possible. I’m just doing my best because this is who I am and I try to give it all for myself and for the club. We will see what happens next.”
Liverpool are doing well this season and have a couple of tough matches — against Real Madrid (Wednesday, November 27) and Manchester City (Sunday, December 1) — this week. They are at the top of the Premier League as well as the UEFA Champions League points tables, with Salah scoring 11 times in 16 matches in the two competitions.
