Arsenal have made enquiries over the availability of Javier Manquillo, with the defender currently breaking into the team Atletico Madrid, TalkSport report.

The right-back is making an impression for Atletico after breaking into the team this season, as Los Rojiblancos have surged up the table to break up the duopoly of Barcelona and neighbours Real Madrid at the top of the table.

The young Spaniard has represented his country at every level since he was 15 and is currently part of the Spanish Under 21 set-up that have won the last two Under 21 European Championships.

Arsenal are currently in the market for a right-back, with the prospect of Bacary Sagna renewing his contract looking slimmer by the day, with the Frenchman keen on a fresh challenge away from the Emirates Stadium.

Carl Jenkinson has yet to prove himself as a reliable first choice on the right hand side of the back four, so Wenger is currently scouting the European market for somebody to fill the void left by Sagna, should he follow through with his plans to leave.

Manquillo has only made two appearances for Atletico this season, but is held in high regard in the Spanish capital, with a big future being predicted to be ahead of him.

Atletico are not thought to be willing to sell, but well-documented financial concerns could see them tempted by a big enough bid, especially for a player who is not yet an indispensable member of the squad.

Manquillo has won 80% of his tackles in the Champions League this term.save image
