Arsenal and Liverpool’s hopes of potentially having a second opportunity of signing Sebastian Rode from Eintracht Frankfurt have been dashed as Bayern Munich’s club doctor gave him the all clear to complete his move to the German champions, according to reports.

Bayern were reportedly considering pulling the plug on the deal to take Rode to the Allianz Arena on a Bosman free transfer after he was ruled out for the rest of the season after having surgery on his knee cartilage.

Arsenal and Liverpool had been linked with a move for the midfielder to strengthen their options at the base of the midfield, with Rode having impressed in Frankfurt’s rise up the Bundesliga table last season.

With news filtering through that Bayern were now worried about the state of the player after his surgery, the Premier League duo were prepared to revive their own interest.

Rode is a central midfielder that specialises in the holding role that both sides have identified as an area that requires strengthening, with Lucas’ fitness at Liverpool unreliable, while Arsenal are looking at alternatives to Mikel Arteta.

However, with Bayern having now examined the player themselves they have deemed him to on the road to recovery and will continue with the deal in place to allow him to link up with the champions in the summer.

Sebastian Rode has created just 18 chances in his 17 appearances without claiming an assist, while he has won 39 tackles at a success rate of just 33%.
