Chelsea are preparing a huge bid for Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira after he recently recovered from a serious knee injury, according to Spanish reports.

A link to Khedira has existed all season, stretching back from last summer after Jose Mourinho left the Spanish capital for London and back to Chelsea.

Jose Mourinho had a good relationship with Khedira, who was a key part of his squad and first-team. The Germany international has missed most of the season with a serious knee ligament injury but looks set to be fit in time for the end of the season, and potentially the World Cup.

Due to his injury, the form of other players in Madrid’s midfield like Luka Modric and Angel Di Maria has improved and they now seem like a better option for Carlo Ancelotti. Xabi Alonso and Asier Illarramendi are also ahead of Khedira in Madrid’s midfield pecking order now too.

For that reason, Chelsea could have a much better chance of purchasing him in the summer transfer window and if their offer is around the rumoured £40 million, then Madrid will likely accept.

Khedira has created 10 chances in 11 games this season.
