Rumour: Didier Drogba to return to Chelsea as player-coach

Over the course of the weekend, one story has caught my eye. If reports are to be believed, Didier Drogba will be offered the chance to return to Chelsea as player coach.

Now it’s believed that Drogba will be offered a four year contract, one year as a player followed by three years as part of Jose Mourinho’s coaching staff.

Looking at Drogba, I am sure he could still do a job when required in the Premier League. I do not see Drogba as a player who will start week in, week out but as we have found out this season, Chelsea need a ‘Plan B’ when things aren’t working and Drogba could still give us that option.

The same report also suggests that despite the rumoured interest from Chelsea, there will be plenty of top clubs around Europe that are looking at Drogba for next season. I guess if anything, it comes down to how much Drogba wants to play next term.

Being honest, seeing him this season, I cannot imagine Drogba wanting to take a back seat to Diego Costa at Stamford Bridge next year when he has options to be a club starting games.

I agree that Chelsea would want to bring Drogba back to the club as part of the coaching staff but I personally feel that it won’t happen until next summer and not this year.

Of course as with anything this summer, alot of it is pure speculation and these could just be made up reports to sell copy. But what if this report does in fact have substance. How would you feel about a possible return to Chelsea for Didier Drogba?

Do you think he could still do a job next season in the Premier League?
