Napoli midfielder Gokhan Inler was coy when asked of news of a potential move away from the club, replying that he leaves his future in the hands of his agent. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is rumoured to be a long term admirer of the Swiss midfielder, with speculation suggesting that Inler could be a January transfer target for the Gunners.

Inler joined Napoli in 2011 but was an Arsenal target as far back as 2008, during his days as an Udinese player. The Swiss international is contracted at Napoli until 2016, but it is believed that Napoli boss Rafa Benitez may be open to a move for the 29-year-old.

“The transfer market? You will have to ask my agent, I do not pay attention to these things. I’m completely focused on my duties as a player,” said Inler in an interview with TMW.

Inler has made 15 league appearances for Napoli this season, scoring one goal. He has also made five appearances in the Champions League, including in a 2-0 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates in October.

If he were to move to London, then Inler would be competing with Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini for the holding midfield position in Arsenal’s midfield.
