Liverpool have re-entered the chase to sign Albert Moreno, with expectation being that the Sevilla defender will move on at the end of the season, according to the Daily Mirror.

Moreno is considered one of the hottest prospects in Spain after making a huge impression in the Sevilla side since breaking through into the first team and is widely considered to be moving to Real Madrid in the summer, according to reports in Spain.

This has not deterred Liverpool from remaining in the race for his signature however, with Brendan Rodgers having identified the left-back position as an area that requires strengthening in time for next season’s campaign.

Liverpool have been forced to play players out of position due to the crisis on the left-hand side of their defence, with right-footed players Glen Johnson and Jon Flanagan having had to cover on the other side of the pitch to the area they are more comfortable.

Jose Enrique has been out for the majority of the season after suffering a knee injury and Rodgers is believed to be unconvinced by the Spaniard in any case, while Aly Cissokho will not have his loan move from Valencia turned into a permanent one, having failed to impress during his spell at Anfield.

Moreno is believed to have a £15 million price tag on his head as Sevilla wish to hold on to their prized asset, but Liverpool face the daunting challenge of taking on Real Madrid in a transfer battle if they are to land their man.

Alberto Moreno has won 32 tackles for Sevilla this season. Of Liverpool’s defenders, only Glen Johnson (38) has won more.
