Brendan Rodgers is plotting a sensational move for Arsenal’s unsettled right-back Bacary Sagna, according to Sky Italia.

The Frenchman is out of contract at the end of the season and has failed to agree a new deal at the Emirates, despite the fact Arsene Wenger is keen to retain his services.

The 31-year-old is rumoured to have received offers from Internazionale and Paris Saint-Germain but it appears he is now leaning towards swapping north London for Liverpool, with the Reds putting a “substantial offer” on the table for his services, according to Sky Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

Sagna is believed to be interested in a long term deal that will take him well into his thirties and Rodgers is reportedly keen despite boasting three blossoming English youngsters in their early twenties at the club already.

It seems having the next Cafu on their hands in Jon Flanagan as well as Andre Wisdom and Martin Kelly on the fringes of the first team is not enough. Besides, Liverpool are not a club that looks to promote home grown players from within. What has Steven Gerrard done lately anyway?

The reports appear to be wide of the mark, unless the sources across the Mediterranean are better than those on Merseyside.

Bacary Sagna has won the most aerial duels for Arsenal in the Champions League this season with 19.
