Porto midfielder Fernando has opened the door for a move to Manchester in the summer, after having intimated his club that he will not be signing a contract extension at the end of the season.

The Brazilian, whose contract at the Portuguese outfit expires in the summer, is now free to discuss terms and sign a pre-contract with any club he chooses.

Manchester City were desperately unlucky in the recently closed transfer window, where they saw a deal for the playmaker fall through in the dying minutes of deadline day.

This could mean curtains for the likes of Jack Rodwell and Javi Garcia at the Etihad, who have been fringe players at best.

The 26-year old, who was being tracked by Chelsea and Liverpool, is most likely to sign a pre-contract in the upcoming days, and join the Citizens in the summer which will be a major boost to Manuel Pellegrini.
