Rumour: Manchester United eye Serie A's astonishing £20m-rated star

Manchester United have reportedly approached Juventus over the availability of midfielder Claudio Marchisio, according to the Express.

The 27-year-old will cost in the region of £20 million according to reports but David Moyes is desperate to add a midfielder to his ranks with the Old Trafford side often found lacking in the middle of the park this season and has earmarked as the experienced Marchisio as a potential target.

The Old Lady are rumoured to be willing to negotiate a deal for Marchisio due to their dramatic Champions League exit at the hands of Galatasaray. It is estimated failure to progress has cost the Italian giants in the region of £17 million and the shortfall needs to be minimised.

Marchisio has been seemingly deemed surplus to requirements due to emergence of Paul Pogba and could be persuaded to move if he is guaranteed enough game time so that his World Cup chances will not be put in jeopardy.

But the following comments he made to JTV, the club’s official television channel, earlier in the season suggest United will have to produce a very enticing offer if he is to turn his back on the club where he has spent his entire career.

“I want to continue winning with this jersey, I have no intention to change. But every year, especially in summer, there have been rumours that involved me. In addition to this one, I have another two years on my deal with Juventus. I hope to play as long as possible with this jersey, it’s not my intention to change,” he declared.

Claudio Marchisio had a 68% tackle success rate last season.
