Rumour: Manchester United eyeing Atletico Madrid's Filipe Luis

Felipe Luis

Manchester United face competition from Ligue 1 outfit Monaco to sign Atletico Madrid left-back Filipe Luis in the summer, reports TalkSport.

The 28-year-old has produced a string of impressive performances for Atleti this season, who are bidding to end Real Madrid and Barcelona’s dominance of La Liga.

Old Trafford boss David Moyes has highlighted the need for another left-back within his squad and has earmarked several potential targets following an unsuccessful attempt to sign Leighton Baines from Everton.

Although Patrice Evra’s future is believed to be secure, Moyes is keen to bring in competition on the left flank and replace Alex Buttner, who has failed to impress him throughout his tenure at the Red Devils thus far.

However, Monaco are also interested in Brazilian Luis and a bidding war between the two clubs could ensue in the summer.

Luis’ current contract expires in 2017 and although manager Diego Simeone is reluctant to sell the defender, a bid in excess of £20 million could leave him powerless to prevent the sale.
