Rumour: Manchester United sign Atletico Madrid defender for €30 million

Miranda headed to Old Trafford?

Manchester United have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Atletico Madrid defender Miranda for €30 million, reports Spanish news agency AS.

The Brazilian was instrumental in helping Atletico Madrid win the La Liga and reach the UEFA Champions League final making 52 appearances for Los Colchoneros this season.

Miranda was earlier reported to be in talks with the Old Trafford outfit who were willing to pay his release clause of just under €30 million to replace departing centre-backs Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand. United’s new manager Louis van Gaal is allegedly keen on the defender and Atletico cannot object to the sale as United are willing to activate his release clause. Numerous reports also claim that Miranda has been to Manchester in the past few weeks and is already looking for schools for his children.

Barcelona were also reportedly interested in Miranda to replace their own departing defender Carles Puyol but were unwilling to pay his release clause and sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta is only prepared to pay €20 million.

Neither Atletico Madrid nor Miranda have made any statements regarding his future.
