Bastian Schweinsteiger's saga at Manchester United had garnered attention all summer with Jose Mourinho confirming that the World Cup winner does not feature in his plans. Schweinsteiger who announced his retirement from the national team last week, played his final game against Finland where the veteran got a bit emotional. The German's arrival in England has not been fruitful and for United who signed the 32-year-old to a three-year deal back in 2015.

His national teammate, Sami Khedira has expressed his displeasure over the German's treatment by Manchester United. "I never want to be in the position where a club asks me to leave. A player with a great career behind him doesn't deserve to have someone tell him ‘hey, get lost.’' Schweinsteiger was also left out of United's Europa League squad which was announced last week.

The 29-year-old continued, "I think the situation in Manchester is a shame because Bastian is a player I've really looked up to. At the World Cup in 2010, he was very important for me. He was the boss, I was young and learned a lot playing next to him. And then he went on to be a great captain." Khedira who played under Jose Mourinho at Real said about the Portuguese. "Football is a business. I'm not a daydreamer. If Jose Mourinho has other plans, you have to accept that. And I know from Bastian that those two had a good talk."

Jose Mourinho earlier in his press conference had explained that why the German would find it tough to gather some playing time under his management. "I think it's very difficult to happen. I'm not saying it's impossible. I'm saying it's very difficult. We have a decision completely made about Paul Pogba, Ander Herrera, Morgan Schneiderlin, Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick. We have five players for two positions. It's very difficult that an opportunity will arrive." he said.

On this summer's big money transfer of Paul Pogba who played with Sami Khedira at Juventus, the German quipped, "The market is a bit overheated, but if a club has the money it can spend it. I would have paid that much for him - he wasn't on offer for any less. His performances will pay it back. He's a player who can be a difference-maker."
