Samir Nasri says he left Arsenal as they weren't competent for big trophies

Manchester City summer buy Samir Nasri insists that he wasn’t unhappy at Arsenal but was forced to look for a move away from the Emirates following a six year long trophyless spell. Nasri added that the current Arsenal squad isn’t competent to challenge for big trophies.

Nasri, who was on the bench for City’s home tie against Wigan, added that being around big name players like Aguero and Dzeko will improve his own performances. Speaking to City’s official website, on being asked what would make him happy at the Etihad Stadium, Nasri said:

“I hope titles. I’m 24, everyone says I’m a good player, but I haven’t won anything. I’ve played at a high level with Arsenal, but I have never won anything.

“This year, one of Arsenal’s best players (Fabregas) left as well. No one has replaced him. When you join a team that has Sergio Aguero, Carlos Tevez, David Silva, Vincent Kompany, you are confident of winning trophies.”

Nasri added that the club’s policies changed since the move from Highbury to Emirates. However, the Frenchman believes that the young guns at Arsenal have quality and will come good in the future.

Speaking about his new team’s chances, Nasri said that this season, City will seriously challenge their rivals Manchester United for the title.

“I think City can win one of the big trophies this season. I think we are the biggest challengers to United. Look at the investment over three seasons, you can see the squad has strength and quality players. World-class players are not scared to come here, you can see that with Sergio Aguero. So I’m confident.”
