German Bundesliga giants FC Bayern Munich continue their pre-season training camp in Trentino under new coach Pep Guardiola, but influential midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger, whose post-season ankle surgery hasn’t healed yet, has returned home to Munich.

Alongside team doctor Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt and physiotherapist Gerry Hofmann, the 28-year-old German international departed earlier today as his rehabilitation and medical process would be better back in Munich.

Schweinsteiger had a surgery to resolve an ankle problem on June 3 with the aim to be back in training for pre-season, but he missed that date and now needs more time to get back to match fitness.

Back in Munich, Schweinsteiger will continue his individual rehab programme in order to return to full training once the rest of the side returns home.

Schweinsteiger himself said on social media, “There is no need to worry. The possibilities for the treatment of the operated foot in Munich are simply better.”
