Scores in 66% of games: Why Chelsea must sign this lethal striker

Robert Lewandowski

With Robert Lewandowski set to leave Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season, a number of top European clubs will be courting the highly-rated 25-year-old in the hope of securing his signature. According to the Express, Chelsea are preparing a big-money offer in January, in order to bring the Polish striker to Stamford Bridge.

Many are expecting Lewandowski to link up with Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich in the summer on a free transfer. However, Chelsea, backed by Russian business tycoon Roman Abramovich, will refuse to believe these rumours and are set to test Dortmund’s resolve during the winter window.

It is no secret that the London club are currently falling short in attack, with Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto’o and Demba Ba all struggling for form. Mourinho’s current forward options have netted just three times between them. Lewandowski’s January arrival could prove the perfect tonic for Chelsea’s goal-scoring woes.

With nine goals in 13 league appearances and a further three in five Champions League fixtures, the Polish striker is in fine form so far this season. His 67% shot accuracy in the league shows just how accurate he is in front of goal.

LewaShotsIn the Bundesliga, every single one of his goals have come from within the penalty area. This instinct and ability to poach in the box is exactly what Chelsea are currently lacking. The club have created 148 chances in the league already this season, with just 11 of these opportunities finding the back of the opposition net.

Clearly Mourinho’s men are in desperate need of a decisive goal scorer – someone who is able to capitalise on all the chances created by their brilliance in midfield. Baring this in mind, Robert Lewandowski would be the ideal signing for the Blues.

The Pole also provides a significant creative threat for his current side. Having made 30 key passes in both the Bundesliga and the Champions League, he has set-up five of the club’s goals this campaign.

Goals win games and this is exactly what Chelsea need if they are to mount a serious challenge for the Premier League title this season. With just 12 matches played, Mourinho has plenty of time to boost the club’s chances of domestic success and a bid for Lewandowski in January could be provide the icing on the cake to a side already full to the brim with world class talent.
