After his strike against Sevilla, Lionel Messi has now scored 19 goals in 23 games for Barcelona in the La Liga this season.

The 33-year-old has been a star performer for Ronald Koeman. Despite his team's shaky start to the season, he has helped the Blaugrana surge to second place in the league table.

Lionel Messi has been a man on a mission since the turn of the year,scoring or assisting 12 times in 14 games for Barcelona.

The Argentine superstar is now making a push for his eighth Pichichi award, as he tops the La Liga scoring charts with 19 goals.

Former Barcelona teammate and Atletico Madrid striker Luis Suarez is second with 16 goals, while Villarreal’s Gerard Moreno is third with 14.

Sevilla’s impressive run in the La Liga came to an end against a rampant Barcelona.

Coming into this game, Sevilla had won their last six league games on the trot.

The Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan outfit had not dropped a single point since mid-January when they lost 2-0 to league leaders Atletico Madrid. This impressive run included wins against Alaves, Cadiz, Eibar, Getafe, Huesca, and most recently, a 2-0 win over Osasuna.

Sevilla have also been impressive in the domestic Cup competition. They currently have one leg firmly in the final of the Copa del Rey after a 2-0 first-leg win over Barcelona.

However, they suffered a 3-2 defeat against Borussia Dortmund in their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 clash.

Barcelona have themselves been in an impressive run in the La Liga; they have now extended their unbeaten run in the competition to 15 games.

Their last La Liga defeat came against Cadiz back in December, a game they lost 2-1; Barcelona have since picked up 12 wins and three draws. The Blaugrana have won nine of their last ten league games to surge to second place in the points table.

However, Barcelona have floundered in other competitions, though, losing 0-2 against Sevilla in the Copa del Rey semi-final first leg and a 4-1 thrashing at home to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League Round of 16 first leg.
