The 13th edition of the South Asian Games 2019 is being held in Kathmandu-Pokhara in Nepal as the Indian contingent aims to maintain their supremacy in South Asia.

One of the sports that has been a part of the South Asian Games event over the decades is football. Pakistan has been the most successful men’s team with four gold medals whereas the Indian team has won three gold medals.

The Indian women’s football team has been the most successful team at the South Asian Games winning both the gold medals since the women’s game was introduced at the 2010 Dhaka South Asian Games.

The Indian women’s team has defeated the Nepalese side at both the 2010 and 2016 South Asian Games held in Dhaka and Guwahati/Shillong respectively.

Indian coach Maymol Rocky had announced a probables squad of 30 women for the training camp and then settled upon the final squad comprising of 20 women who will aim to get the hat-trick of gold medals for the nation at the South Asian Games.

India begin its gold medal title defence against the Maldives on December 3, 2019 at 2pm IST at the Pokhara Stadium. The next fixtures will see the team take on Sri Lanka on December 5, 2019 and hosts Nepal on December 7, 2019. The final of the Women’s football event will take place on 9th December, 2019 at 5pm IST.
