Barcelona’s new teenage sensation Munir El Haddadi has been called up to the Spain squad after Diego Costa was ruled out with a hamstring injury. Spain play a Euro 2016 qualifier against Macedonia and Costa had limped off the field after coming off against France earlier this week.

This isn’t the first time Costa has had this problem and it is an issue he has had for four months now, first surfacing during the final months of last season with Atletico Madrid.

He was risked in the Champions League final against Real Madrid and lasted only nine minutes before coming off.

A Spanish Football Federation statement said: “Diego Costa is not available for selection because of an injury to the hamstring muscle in his left thigh,

“All imaging tests will be sent to Chelsea.”

Munir: My jaw dropped after Spain call-up

Meanwhile, Munir couldn’t believe his ears when they told him that he had been called up to the squad by Vicente del Bosque.

“When they told me, my mouth fell open. It's a dream to play for the Spain team and I'm very happy,” he said.

“I've realised a dream. It's a moment I want to enjoy, an opportunity to take, and to give my best.”

Munir was born in Madrid.and is of Moroccon descent, and he was also eligible to play for Morocco, but will now play for Spain. And he can’t wait to represent Spain at Euro 2016.

“Every trophy you can win is good and to be there would be a hugely proud moment, to play with the Spain team is what I would like to do.

“I've followed the national team every summer that they have played since I was small, and now I want to thank my family and friends for supporting me at every turn.”
