Steven Gerrard has always spoken about his desire to coach Liverpool

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has revealed that he gets on ‘very well’ with Jurgen Klopp, but he has not spoken anything about a coaching role with the Liverpool manager. Gerrard has been touted for a coaching role with his boyhood club, but Gerrard insisted that there has been no contact from the club:

“Jurgen Klopp’s his own man, he’s got his own team of people around him that he’s very happy and content with," Gerrard said.

"Of course I’ve got a huge Liverpool connection and Liverpool is in my heart and always will be but there’s nothing to really comment on.

"There’s no future decision to work with Klopp, I get on very well with him, we’re in contact but there’s no job opportunity there at the moment.

“There’s nothing for me to really say on the matter. I’m a big fan of him, I hope he brings success back to Liverpool next season (suggesting the interview was recorded several weeks ago) and I’ll be supporting him from over here.

“If I had something to say I wouldn’t keep supporters waiting, I’m not the type of person that would keep something under my hat and wait and delay. There’s absolutely nothing to say on my future beyond this MLS season.

"What I can say is the phone’s going, and people are enquiring ‘what is the next move' and I am chewing over a lot of different things in my head but there’s nothing to announce at the moment.”

Steven Gerrard joined La Galaxy after the 2014-15 season and he hopes to win the MLS cup with his new side before he hangs up his boots. Once he does, it will be interesting to see if Gerrard is given a coaching role at Anfield.

Klopp expects tough test against Chelsea

Both Liverpool and Chelsea have started well in the Premier League this season with Conte’s side yet to taste defeat in the Premier League. Speaking ahead of Friday night’s game, Klopp said:

"I'm very excited, games against Chelsea are always special things in the Premier League," said the German, whose team won 3-1 in west London last year with Philippe Coutinho scoring twice.

"They're a strong side and in a good moment. They're competitive, physically strong (and have) learned from the experience of last year."Last season was not a Chelsea season, obviously, and now they are back on track and that's how it is and so we need to be ready for a real challenge."
