Barcelona pick up where they left off with victory over Sevilla

#2 Injuries steal Barca’s thunder

Andres Iniesta
Injuries to Iniesta and Mathieu were the only disheartening moments from the match for Barcelona

A 2-0 away win in the first leg of the cup is a good result by all means, but Barcelona were dealt with a double blow, as Jeremy Mathieu and Andres Iniesta sustained injuries in the first half, that is set to keep them out of the return leg in Camp Nou

Amid Sevilla’s energetic play in the first 45 minutes, Mathieu succumbed to a hamstring injury after a rash challenge to his leg, making way for newbie Lucas Digne for his Barcelona debut. Just minutes later, the visitors suffered another injury as their captain Iniesta too, had to be taken off after the Spaniard was dealt a heavy blow on his right knee, forcing another change.

The extent of their injuries is yet to be ascertained, but both are certainly ruled out of the deciding leg at home on Wednesday.
