Swansea 2-1 Manchester United: Player Ratings

Jonjo Shelvey celebrates scoring the matchwinner against Manchester United

Swansea City managed to complete the league double over Manchester United for the first time in the club’s history. Ander Herrera put United in front, Sung-Yong Ki equalised within a couple of miutes to put the match back on level terms.

Gary Monk's side took advantage of United committing extra bodies up front by scoring a late winner through former Liverpool man Jonjo Shelvey. Let us look at how the players performed on the night:

Swansea City

Lukasz Fabianski - 7/10

The former Arsenal man was regularly called upon to come off his line to collect crosses and he did it with relative ease.

Kyle Naughton - 6/10

The former Tottenham Hotspur man looked soild in defence. However, he offered little at the other end.

Federico Fernandez - 7/10

He looked composed at the back. He formed a great partnership with his defensive partner and stood tall at the back.

Ashley Williams - 7.5/10

William was up to the challenge on the night. He cleared everything which was thrown at him. He looked like a rock at the back.

Neil taylor - 6/10

Just like his full-back partner, he looked composed in defence, but offered little in the attacking third.

Sung-Yong Ki - 7/10

For the second time this season, he has scored against Manchester United. He also looked solid and composed in the midfield.

Jack Cork - 6/10

He offered great protection to his centre-backs with his great work rate. However, he failed to offer much at the other end.

Jonjo Shelvey - 8.5/10 (Man Of the Match)

The former Liverpool midfielder bagged the winner and provided a beautiful assist for Ki's equaliser in the first half. He was a handful for United defenders on the night with his neat passing.

Gylfi Siggurdsson - 6/10

He scored the winner last time at Old Trafford. However, he wasn't at the same level on Saturday and had a quite game.

Wayne Routledge - 6.5/10

He was a constant threat for Swansea in the attacking third. He also tracked back well to help his defenders.

Bafetimbi Gomis - 7/10

If not for Herrera, he would have got a goal in the opening minutes. But he should have burried the free header which he got in the tenth minute. He however manged to make up for it by heading many balls out while defending corners.

Substitutes

Jefferson Montero (74') - 6/10

He offered good pace after replacing the ineffective Gigurdsson.

Jordi Amat (90') - N/A

Hardly anytime to make an impact in the match.

Manchester United

David de Gea - 7/10

Despite United enjoying the majority of possesion, De Gea had to maintain his concentration level as United looked susceptible every time the ball came into the box. And the Spaniard was up to the mark.

Paddy Mcnair - 6/10

The young defender looked composed in defending, but couldn't offer much at the other end despite finding a lot of room. Was replaced by Valencia at the break.

Phil Jones - 5/10

The English centre-half looked out of position every time the ball came into the box. Adding to his woes, he got an unnecessary yellow card at the start of the second half.

Marcos Rojo - 5/10

The Argentine looked equally susceptible every time the ball came into the box. His distribution was not very good as he gave the ball away on more than one occasion.

Luke Shaw - 6/10

The young English full-back looked lively on his side. He offered plenty of width on his side and was decent in defence.

Daley Blind - 6/10

Blind did well sitting in front of his defenders and his distribution was neat. He regularly popped into the opposition box to offer an extra body forward.

Ander Herrera - 8/10

Not just the goal, but his play in general too was really good. He made the crucial goal-line clearance in the opening minutes and initiated many attacks with neat distribution.

Angel Di Maria - 6.5/10

The Argentine looked lively up front, but his final ball regularly let him down. He needs to do a lot to justify his sizeable price tag.

Maroune Fellaini - 7/10

He was put up in the starting line-up to offer an alternative source of attack and Fellaini proved a useful alternative. He was a constant threat for United in the opposition penalty box with his heading prowess.

Wayne Rooney - 7.5/10

He was at the heart of everything which United did well in the attacking third. His one touch link-up play with his teammates was a treat to the eyes.

Robin Van Persie - 6/10

He looked a better alternative than the ineffective Radamel Falcao. His link up play with Rooney was really good. However, his finishing let him down.

Substitutes

Antonio Valencia (45’) - 6/10

The winger was brought in place of Mcnair to offer more width on the right hand side and the winger duly stuck to his task.

Ashley Young (58') - 6/10

Just like his teammate, Young was brought on to offer more room on his side. The English winger did just that.

Juan Mata (79') - 5/10

He hardly had any time to make an impact as United were already trailing by the time he came on to the pitch.
