Swansea City has gone on record about to confirm the signing of Espanyol defender Jordi Amat in a £2.5 million deal, once the player passes his medicals.

The 21-year-old defender will be Michael Laudrup’s second signing this summer, the first arrival being midfielder Jose Canas who jumped ships from the Premier League to La Liga and back to the Premier League.

A statement published on the Swansea website, confirming the latest development, said: “Swansea City have completed the £2.5 million signing of central defender Jordi Amat from Espanyol, subject to a medical and international clearance.”

Laudrup, who was engaged in previous roles with Getafe and Mallorca of Spain, has opened the transfer gate to bring in a number of players from the La Liga since his appointment at Swansea last summer.

Laudrup, in a mission to strengthen his squad for the 2013-14 campaign, has appealed to the Capital One Cup holders to gather enough financial fire power as some of his recruits such as Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis and Vitesse Arnhem’s Wilfried Bony have table a record fee of £10 million each.

While Bony’s agent admitted that a £10.2 million deal had been done, a statement of Vitesse’s website read: “Various media have reported that Wilfried Bony is to transfer to Premier League club Swansea City. This message is incorrect.”

“There is admittedly much interest in the striker, the top scorer in the Eredivisie last season, and Swansea City are one of the interested clubs. However, a transfer is not the case.”
