The Arsenal Diary

Arsenal will be in upbeat mood after their 2-0 win over Liverpool

Here I am still in boastful mood, that after 10 games.

Arsenal sit at the top of the table 5 points clear of our nearest rivals Chelsea!

Honestly speaking I didn’t think that we were going to be in this position given the start we had to the season with that 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa at home on opening day. But credit to the team the way they responded. Wenger always talked about the passion, spirit and confidence within the team and he was spot on with that. What followed was a series of fantastic results. The main thing for me is the stability we had during the summer where we didn’t lose any of our star players and added a world class player with fantastic technical ability in Mesut Ozil while our main rivals had changes with new managers coming in at United, City, Chelsea and a massive overhaul of the squad at Spurs due to the departure of Gareth Bale.

We have shown that we can adapt our playing style when playing against different teams like we did against Stoke when all the goals we scored were from set pieces and at the same time have played the football we are known for.

This is the Premier League we are talking about where things can change very quickly as it takes one bad game to lose the momentum. So as far as Arsenal are concerned, first thing is getting through November as it has not been a favourable month for us in past seasons and December with a good show. The players coming back from injury will definitely help the cause. January is vital for us as I think we lack in two areas.

Firstly a striker as clearly Nicklas Bendtner is not good enough as the Bendtner that plays for Denmark and the one that plays for Arsenal there is a huge difference between the two and second is that we don’t have a proper backup for Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny. Personally I think Thomas Vermaelen is not a good enough centre-back and I think should be given a chance in that holding role.

But first thing is to get through this period where we have some tough games. The midfield looks solid as ever. Aaron Ramsey has been the player of the season for me. They are combining well with Olivier Giroud up front and the goals are coming from all over the field which is a very good thing which is allowing Giroud to play well.

Looking forward to the game against Dortmund on Wednesday night. A massive game and 3 points are vital and I am sure that the team will come back with right result, COYG!!!!
