Serie A match gets lone away fan

Udinese’s recent match against Genoa recently had nothing to talk about. Nothing on the pitch at least. Yet it made news worldwide for the support the away team (Udinese) got. No they weren’t vociferous. They weren’t even there!

Only 1, yes just ONE fan turned up to support his team in the match. That was because the other away fans were too lazy to make a 600 mile round trip to Genoa.

Yet it was the lone fan, Arrigo Brovedani, who went away laughing, as he got free tea and snacks from the home fans and Udinese even dedicated the club’s win to him!

And it’s not even like he was very dedicated to the club to make the trip. Brovedani merely happened to be in Genoa for a business meeting apparently, and decided to go for the match.

Now if that isn’t lucky, we don’t know what is!

World’s first carbon neutral club

Newcastle may not be first in the league, but they are first in something most fans would appreciate them a lot for. They have become the first carbon neutral football club in the world.

The club first started the project in 2009, in order to reduce the club’s carbon footprints. The project seems to have borne fruit now.

We congratulate Newcastle for this, and can only hope the others follow suit soon!

Goal line tech too expensive?

The much awaited goal line tech may not make its way into mainstream football, with FIFA President Sepp Blatter claiming it was too expensive.

“To put goal-line technology in our competitions would cost €50 million in five years. I prefer to give €50m to the grassroots and development in football rather than to put €50m into technology for perhaps one or two goals per year. That’s a lot of money per goal.”

That’s not going to make many fans happy!

In today’s transfer new, Italian website Calciomercato claim Real Madrid are set to launch a £56 million bid for Tottenham star Gareth Bale.

We thought Real would have learned from their mistakes by now. Remember their other £56 million ‘Superstar’? Didn’t work out too well did it?

Meanwhile, the Manchester Evening News claim Sir Alex Ferguson will sell Nani and use the money to fund moves for Porto‘s James Rodriguez and Celtic‘s Victor Wanyama.

While this would be welcome news for United fans, considering Ferguson’s stubbornness in not buying in January, we find this hard to believe!
