The Blues were victorious in a thrilling London derby vs Arsenal

Coming into the match, Arsenal were looking for their first point of the new season having lost their opening game of the season to defending champions Manchester City. Chelsea came into the encounter on the back of a comfortable win over Huddersfield on the opening weekend.

The home side's confidence showed as they took the lead as early as the 9th minute after Pedro found the net off an assist by Marcos Alonso.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang then produced one of the misses of the season as he blazed his shot over the crossbar with the goal gaping. Arsenal would be punished soon after as on twenty minutes, Shkodran Mustafi was beaten by Alvaro Morata who then proceeded to beat Petr Cech in goal.

Arsenal did not lie down, however, and after mimicking Aubameyang's miss from earlier, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, produced a lovely left-foot finish to pull a goal back for the Gunners. The Armenian then turned provider on 41 minutes with a cross which was fired home by Alex Iwobi.

The latter continued to torment the Chelsea defence until halftime when the teams went in level at 2-2. Chelsea was much improved in the second half especially after the introduction of Eden Hazard. The Belgian troubling the away side's defence leading to a goal on 81 minutes by Alonso.

A valiant effort by the Gunners ultimately ending in defeat as both sides' defensive performances left much to be desired.
