Theo Walcott gearing up for World Cup

Theo Walcott is starting to improve his form ahead of this summer’s 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

The Arsenal winger terrorised Sunderland’s defense Saturday with his pace and slalom runs in Arsenal’s 2-0 win at the Emirates stadium in front of England manager Fabio Capello. Walcott who has been hit with an injury plagued season only made his 5th start of the campaign.

This was the type of game England and Theo needed. His performance on Saturday was the best form he has been in for Arsenal this season and he is finally learning how to cope with the physical style of the Premier League.

When I saw Walcott three weeks ago against an in-form Chelsea side he looked short of confidence, lacked aggresiveness and should not have been on the pitch to be frank.

Now you can see the fire burning in his eyes.

Since that game three weeks ago Walcott has turned his game around. Yesterday, was the first example of a man who looks more sharp, more focused and noticeably without an injury.

Supporters and critics of the England national team are wondering whether Walcott will be selected for this summer’s World Cup if he can not find the form that saw him become the youngest player in England history to score a hat-trick against Croatia back in 2008.

Theo Walcott can play striker or winger for the England squad, but he is currently behind players like Aaron Lennon of Tottenham, David Beckham of AC Milan and Ashley Young of Aston Villa.

Arsene Wenger believes that Walcott is starting to find his feet and mature into the footballer they all expected when he signed for the Gunners from Southhampton when he was 16 years old.

Now all Walcott needs to do is get his confidence back and put the ball in the back of the net. If he can produce things like this not only will he be a major factor in Arsenal’s chances of winning trophies this season, but he will surely catch the eye of Capello and be included in the 2010 England World Cup squad.
