Thibaut Courtois feels the training in the Belgium team is at a higher level than that of the sessions at Chelsea. The keeper is currently away on International duty with his national teammates as they prepare to face Portugal on the 30th of March.

Courtois feels Chelsea’s training sessions are lighter due to the involvement of youngsters in the first team.Speaking to broadcaster RTBF he said “The level of training is higher among the Belgians as there are only world class international players in the squad, while at Chelsea the core squad sometimes trains alongside the youngsters as well.”

When asked about his future at the club he said, “I don't know. I still have three years on my current contract, it's about what Chelsea want as well”

Courtois missed the first few months of Chelsea’s season after suffering a knee injury, with Asmir Begovic slotting in for him. Chelsea suffered a horrible first half of the season winning only four times under Jose Mourinho but haven’t lost in the league since Guss Hiddink took over.

The 23-year-old was asked about the club’s indifferent season and their failure to defend the title. “It's true to say that it changes you, until now I have always been used to winning a trophy every season. We hope next season will go better, we are awaiting the new manager. It wasn't a pleasant experience with the injury but I have worked very hard to return to action quickly.”

The Belgian also spoke about having been brought up in an encouraging household saying, “It is especially important from a psychological point of view to be solid, but with my character and the fact that I grew in a family of top level sportstars (his father, mother and sister have or were previously volleyball players), so I have not had too many problems in this regard.”

Club was right to sack Mourinho: Courtois

Jose Mourinho was sacked by Chelsea in December after the team were languishing in the bottom half of the table. His last game in charge was a defeat against current leaders Leicester City which proved to the final nail in his coffin.

Several Chelsea fans were sad to see him leave but Courtois felt it was the right decision. “We needed a change of manager at that point - I have no doubts about it. We drew too many matches and we have also conceded goals too easily. I could have done better with some of them. “
