Thorgan Hazard’s future remains uncertain

SV Zulte Waregem Training

Eden Hazard’s younger brother Thorgan has become the subject of a war of words in Belgium, as two clubs are vying for his signature, Sky Sports report.

Hazard joined Zulte Waregem on loan for the season in the summer, and has proven to be one of the best players in the Belgian Jupiler Ligue.

This however has brought interest from Anderlecht, with the Belgian giants having asked Chelsea to terminate the loan of Hazard to Zulte, in order to then send him to them.

This has brought about an angry response from Zulte, who have accused Anderlecht of trying to unsettle both player and club with their pursuit of Hazard.

Zulte issued a statement saying, “Thorgan Hazard stays at Zulte Waregem until the end of the season. Chelsea have confirmed again this is the case.

“Zulte Waregem have been in contact with Anderlecht last week to make it clear that we won’t discuss a deal in this transfer period. We are happy that Anderlecht understand our point of view.

“As far as I know, Thorgan is happy at the club and we have a deal. I’ve had contact with Chelsea. They have confirmed to me that they aren’t considering sending Thorgan on loan to another Belgian team.

“We’re just two points behind Anderlecht in the league and we’re still in the race for the cup – something Anderlecht can’t say. So why would he better off at Anderlecht than at Waregem?”

Anderlecht however responded with their own statement, insisting they have not yet given up hope of striking a deal that sees Hazard spend the remainder of the season with them.

“Anderlecht remains interested in Thorgan Hazard. The club also remains open to any form of dialogue with all parties involved.”

Whilst slightly messy for Chelsea in terms of relations within Belgium, the Blues will be encouraged that young Hazard is attracting such interest, as he prepares to try to break into the Chelsea first team next season.

Brother Eden has caught the eye in England, but Thorgan has had a fine European campaign for Zulte, creating 17 chances for teammates, more than any other player in the Europa League group stages.
