Chelsea emerged as a football powerhouse ever since Roman Abramovich purchased the club in 2003, and they've won 17 trophies under the Russian. Much of their success is down to their extravagant spending in the transfer market and their ability to sign big players.

The Blues spent a net amount of £560.08 million over the last ten seasons, which makes them the third most spending Premier League team of that period. Club legends like Didier Drogba, Micheal Essien, Ricardo Carvalho were all signed for big money by the club.

Right on this note, here is the list of top three most expensive Chelsea signings of all time.

#3 Christian Pulisic - €64 million

Chelsea splashed a transfer fee of €64 million to sign Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund in the January Transfer Window of 2019, making him the third most expensive player in the history of the club.

However, he was immediately sent back on loan to his former club for the rest of the season and Chelsea fans have to wait until the start of next season to see their latest recruit playing in the blue shirt.

The American international is regarded as one of the most exciting young players in the world at the moment and was on the shortlist of a number of big clubs before moving to London.

The 20-year-old's electric pace and a neat touch give him the ability to beat defenders with ease, while his finishing and an eye to pick up a killer pass also add up to his valuable attributes. He played 81 Bundesliga games, scoring 10 goals for Dortmund thus far and helped the German club win the DFB-Pokal 2016-17.

He was a part of UEFA Champions League Breakthrough XI 2016 and also won the U.S Soccer Male Athlete of the Year 2017.

#2 Alvaro Morata - €66 million

The London-based club spent a whopping amount of €66 million to sign Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid in the summer transfer window of 2017.

The 26-year-old striker enjoyed huge successes with Real Madrid and Juventus before joining Chelsea and the Blues had to beat a number of big clubs to secure his services. However, he failed to replicate his previous successes with the Premier League club and managed to scored just 15 goals in 48 games in all competitions during his first season with the club.

The Spanish international looked out of form this season as well and was criticized by both fans and media for his poor showings for the Blues. He managed to score just five league goals this season and often found himself out of the starting XI of the club.

The former Real Madrid man is being linked with a move away from Chelsea during the recent weeks and will mostly be remembered by the Chelsea fans as a 'flop'.
