Top 5 Alan Shearer Goals

Newcastle United v Sunderland Premier League 1997
Alan Shearer - Still the Premier League's record goal-scorer

Alan Shearer plundered 409 goals in his 19-year career, in club and international Football and still as of 2018, holds the record for most Premier League goals scored with a mammoth 260; some 52 higher than second-placed Wayne Rooney.

Shearer played for three clubs throughout his career; Southampton, Blackburn Rovers and his beloved home-town team, Newcastle United.

Known as one of the finest strikers in history, Shearer was synonymous with scoring sumptuous goals from outside the box and has delivered huge amounts of memorable moments with mouth-watering strikes.

Despite his incredible goal-scoring exploits, Shearer's trophy cabinet is surprisingly empty. His lone Premier League success came in 1994-95 with Blackburn, when the Lancashire team upset Champions Manchester United to secure the title by a single point on the final day of the season.

Shearer made worldwide headlines in the summer of 1996, when after his Golden Boot for England at Euro '96 made him one of the hottest commodities in Football, he signed for his beloved Newcastle, for a then-record £15 million.

Shearer had been widely expected to sign for Premier League Double winners Manchester United but listened to his heart rather than perhaps his head.

Shearer, though, never regretted the decision and despite a lack of silverware, loved every second of his decade playing for the Toon Army in front of an adoring Geordie crowd.

This slideshow counts down Shearer's finest five goals for club and country.

Shearer didn't win any silverware during his decade at Newcastle but he did deliver plenty of stupendous goals and several top four finishes for his boyhood club.

In a goal that will forever be remembered by all who witnessed it, Shearer contributed heavily to Newcastle's upset 2-1 win over Chelsea.

Shearer skilfully turned Desailly on the corner of the box and unleashed a fierce right-foot shot that buried itself into the bottom corner of the Chelsea goal. Unstoppable.

Shearer caps his Blackburn debut with a wonder goal

Alan Shearer made his debut for Blackburn Rovers after signing from Southampton for around £3.5 million, in Blackburn's first game of the inaugural Premier League season.

It wasn't long before he scored his first goal for the club. 67 minutes in fact. Shearer made the score 2-2 when Mike Newell, nodded a long clearance perfectly into his path, and Shearer cushioned the ball on his chest and unleashed a spectacular looped half volley over Nigel Martyn from 25 yards out.

It was a stunning strike and announced Shearer as the premier striker in England. He would soon surpass Gary Lineker as England's main man.

Shearer finishes off a brilliant move to make it 3-0 to England

Euro '96 is a tournament that will live long in the nation's heart for a generation as England playing in front of their home fans in a major tournament for the first time since 1966, almost emulated that famous World Cup success.

Their most memorable victory of that campaign came in a 4-1 hammering of one of the pre-tournament favourites in the Netherlands, a team that boasted several of Ajax's 1995 European Cup-winning squad.

Shearer had put England ahead with a first-half penalty and added a superb second after the break when he finished off a beautiful move which saw Paul Gascoigne bully his way down the left to slip a pass through to Teddy Sheringham.

Sheringham played a beautiful dummy pass which was so good, it almost fooled Shearer. Recovering, England's number nine smashed the lay off into the top corner. A fabulous goal to highlight one of England's finest ever performances.

Shearer hits a sumptuous volley to score his finest ever goal

Alan Shearer has never hit the ball as sweet as he did in the closing moments of Newcastle's encounter with Everton at St. James's Park.

Trailing 1-0 with just four minutes left on the clock, the ball was headed clear of Everton's box. With the ball in the air, Shearer smashed a first-time volley and the ball rocketed into the corner of the goal.

The Newcastle fans went wild. So, delirious was the atmosphere after Shearer's screamer, it inspired Newcastle to score again three minutes later completing a memorable 2-1 comeback win.
