Borussia Dortmund created shockwaves by winning consecutive Bundesliga titles in 2011 and 2012 and they took their surprise run a notch higher by progressing to the Champions League final in 2013.

The last hurdle they scaled before reaching the showpiece event was none other than Real Madrid and the Germans showed great grit by dispatching the record champions 4-3 on aggregate.

Their charge was led by a certain Robert Lewandowski and while the Polish international might now be banging in goals for fun with Bayern Munich these days, he has always been lethal in front of goal.

Real Madrid were first-hand witnesses of this in the first-leg of their semifinal clash with Dortmund and Lewandowski was the star of the show, scoring all four goals in an eventual shock 4-1 victory.

This automatically handed the initiative to the Germans and Lewandowski's goals proved priceless, as despite Real Madrid winning the second-leg 2-0, they were eliminated on aggregate.
