There is perhaps no ex-player who is hated more by the Liverpool faithful than this former Senegalese international. Upon his arrival at Anfield, there was some excitement around El Hadji Diouf's ability as he had performed well for his nation in the 2002 World Cup.

He scored a brace on his debut, but then went seven months without a goal as the club's primary striker.

All the other instances in his Liverpool career are ones which fans look back at with disgust - he spit at a Celtic fan during a European game, went two full seasons goalless, and now he is prominent for hurling abuse at club legend Steven Gerrard once in a while.

In the 2003-04 season, Diouf amassed 13 yellow cards and one red card and gained a name for himself as a notorious, no-good player who was better at fouling than actually playing football.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher had this to say for him - "He has one of the worst strike rates of any forward in Liverpool history. He's the only no. 9 ever to go through a whole season without scoring, in fact, he is probably the only no. 9 of any club to do that. He was always the last one to get picked in training."

His departure from the club in 2005 made fans heave a sigh of relief.
