Shearer's first Premier League hat-trick arrived in the second season of the competition when the striker scored thrice in Blackburn Rover's 3-3 away draw at Leeds United. Hat-tricks against Queens Park Rangers, West Ham United and Ipswich Town respectively quadrupled Shearer's Premier League hat-trick tally.
In 1995-96, Shearer became the first, and till date the only player to score 5 Premier League hat-tricks in a season. The England international registered respective 3 (or more) goal hauls against Coventry City, Nottingham Forest, West Ham United, Bolton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur.
Shearer registered his 10th Premier League hat-trick, and first for his new club Newcastle United, in a 4-3 win over Leicester City in 1996-97. His five goals in the 8-0 win over Sheffield United in 1999-2000 made the Englishman the only player, after Andy Cole, to score 5 goals in a Premier League game.
