Fernando Torres thinks Samuel Eto'o is a genius

Chelsea striker Fernando Torres has revealed that Stamford Bridge boss Jose Mourinho does not give an explanation to his players when he chooses to drop them from the team, according to the Daily Star.

Although the west Londoners are currently top of the Premier League table, one point ahead of Arsenal, the club’s trio of senior strikers have failed to score on a regular basis.

Torres, Samuel Eto’o and Demba Ba have managed just 11 goals between them so far and Mourinho has opted for the Cameroonian as his first choice in recent weeks, but Torres admits he does not know why he has fallen out of favour with the Portuguese manager.

“None at all. You just get used to it and try to respect his decisions.

“Mourinho has shown that everybody will get a chance and we’ve all been through the same thing. He likes to rotate the squad and shake up the team depending on the opposition,” Torres declared.

However, despite slipping down the pecking order behind Eto’o, the Spaniard is adamant there is no jealousy in the Blues’ camp.

“It’s great, he’s [Eto'o] a genius. He’s doing what he’s always done, scoring goals,” insisted Torres.

Although Torres has hailed the intelligence of his new team mate, it surely does not take a genius to figure out why Torres has been dropped to the bench more often than not during the current campaign.

There is still a distinct lack of goals from the £50 million man, with just four in the league this season, and Mourinho has made no secret of his desire to make a high profile signing in the summer that could spell the end of Torres’ Stamford Bridge career.

Fernando Torres has scored 18 league goals for Chelsea since the 2011/12 season, equal to Daniel Sturridge’s total for Liverpool this season.
