Chelsea Player Ratings

Timo Werner scored his first goal for Chelsea
Timo Werner scored his first goal for Chelsea

Edouard Mendy - 6/10

He was sometimes a bit rushed in trying to claim crosses, but it was a largely solid performance from Mendy. He dived the wrong way for almost every penalty in the shootout.

Cesar Azpilicueta - 7/10

Azpilicueta was very bright, especially in the first half, as Reguilon seemed to go missing on the flank for Spurs. He set up Werner's goal with a good run and pass as well.

Kurt Zouma - 6/10

In the first half, he denied Gedson with a strong last-ditch challenge. He was at fault for the Spurs goal, as he completely missed his header from Reguilon's cross.

Fikayo Tomori - 7/10

Tomori was largely very comfortable up against Bergwijn, with the Dutchman not looking comfortable in a central role.

Ben Chilwell - 6/10

In his first start for Chelsea, Chilwell had the freedom of the flank to himself, as Aurier didn't do well in covering that side. Chilwell will definitely feel that he should have done better with the quality of his balls into the box.

Jorginho - 7/10

Jorginhi controlled the tempo of the game in midfield for Chelsea. His passing was pin-point, and it was sharp. He also scored his penalty in the shootout, which will come as a relief, after he missed his last spot kick in the game against Liverpool.

Mateo Kovacic - 7/10

Kovacic's pressing and ability to win the ball back immediately was out in full force. He denied Spurs the ball in any decent areas, and helped keep possession and control for Chelsea.

Callum Hudson-Odoi - 6/10

He made some great runs into the box, and his crossing was largely good. But he missed a great chance in the first half, after Tanganga missed his clearance. Hudson-Odoi struck his shot straight at Lloris.

Mason Mount - 4/10

Mount looked tired in this game, as Lampard gave him yet another start. His passing was off, he didn't really move with intensity, and in the end, missed the decisive penalty in the shootout.

Timo Werner - 7/10

He made the goal look easier than it was, and will no doubt be relieved to get that monkey off his back. A muscle issue will concern Chelsea for the next few days, but that was the reason he didn't take a penalty in the shootout.

Olivier Giroud - 5/10

Giroud didn't really have a great game, as his aerial threat was easily dealt with by Alderweireld.

Substitutes

Emerson Palmieri - 5/10

He replaced Chilwell at the hour mark. He failed to check Lamela's run at the back-post, which led to Spurs drawing level.

N'Golo Kante - 6/10

He replaced Kovacic, as Lampard opted for fresh legs in midfield.

Tammy Abraham - 6/10

Didn't really get a sniff of goal in regulation time. He took his penalty in the shootout really well, though.
