Manchester United beat off competition from the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool to complete the signing of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund last summer. The player himself has revealed that players from the two clubs tried to persuade him to join their respective sides prior to his Old Trafford switch.
It cost Manchester United a whopping €85 million to secure Sancho's signature in July 2021. The Englishman, who signed a five-year deal with the Red Devils, has revealed the role his England colleagues played in convincing him to choose the Theatre of Dreams.
"I met Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw with the national team. They always said: Come to United," he told Sky Sports Deutschland.
Similarly, Chelsea and Liverpool stars also tried to play a similar role for their clubs to influence the attacker's choice of club but it only got serious after the Euros. Sancho explained:
"There were also the guys from Chelsea and Liverpool, who all tried to convince me their club, but it only really got serious after Euro 2020."
Jadon Sancho has had a slow start to life at Manchester United, recording just five goals and two assists to his name in 31 appearances across all competitions so far. The winger admits things haven't been very smooth for him at Old Trafford but claims he's happy that he's finally breaking free and becoming more comfortable.
"I'm very self-critical," he said. "It certainly isn't my best season, but I have learned a lot. A new league, new teammates. I would say that I'm only now really starting to break free. I feel more and more comfortable and happy," the Englishman added.

Jadon Sancho's record for Manchester United against Chelsea and Liverpool this season
The attacker got the chance to represent the Red Devils when they faced the Blues in the Premier League in November. He made the opportunity count by scoring his side's sole goal of the game, which ensured they earned a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge.
However, he's yet to play against Liverpool after serving as an unused substitute during the 5-0 loss to the Reds in October. He'll certainly be hoping to get the nod to face Jurgen Klopp's men when they clash for the second time this season.
