What was intended to be a harmless joke, turned out to be one of the worst nightmares for Antoine Griezmann. The French striker, who's loved by almost all the football fans in the world, had turned more than half of them against him for a fancy dress photo he uploaded on Instagram. This is the post that saw abuses hurled at the Griezmann:Antoine Griezmann's fancy dress makeup was not something acceptable for a LOT of people! pic.twitter.com/NZwTqBUdNS— Football Expose (@FootballExpose) December 18, 2017Despite Griezmann clarifying that it was a tribute to Harlem Globetrotters, the fans were furious that he painted himself black. Here are some tweets sent out regarding the Griezmann post:Deschamps 100% confirmed racist if Griezmann goes to the WC and Benzema doesn't.— DaG (@Wrighty_8) December 17, 2017Why it is racist. 1) It is a historical form of belittlement and mockery.2) It perpetuates a stereotype of what white people thing black people look like. 3) It symbolises the dis-empowerment of dark skinned minorities many of whom still live that reality. #Griezmann— AtléticoFans (@AtleticoFans) December 17, 2017Griezmann: "Laca tell them I'm not racist bro."Lacazette: pic.twitter.com/HFWETwFCau— KJ ? (@TilliamsWosin36) December 18, 2017If you're asking how is that racist re: Antoine Griezmann then you're part of the problem. Casual racism is still prevalent in society and that pic of Griezmann is evidence of that. Whether it's intentional or not is irrelevant.— Luke Foley ?? (@LukeAFoley) December 17, 2017Suárez-Griezmann.Could be the most racist duo in the history of football.— Jimmy (@FCBJimmy_) December 17, 2017Anyone defending Griezmann needs to educate themselves. I don't think Griezmann is a racist, but what he did was a racist act. Horrible decision on his part. Not sure what he was thinking. Utterly disrespectful thing to do— ???? #???_???????? (@iBndrz) December 17, 2017Griezmann later apologised to everyone he offended by tweeting: "I agree that it's awkward for me.
