Real Madrid have been eliminated from the UEFA Champions League after falling to a 4-1 home loss at the hands of Ajax. The Spanish giants went into the last 16 tie holding a healthy 2-1 lead from the first-leg against Ajax, but were totally annihilated at the Bernabeu.

The Dutch side dominated from the onset and deservedly opened the scoring after just seven minutes. Dusan Tadic neatly set up Ziyech to coolly slot home past Thibaut Courtois. 11 minutes later, Tadic was again in the thick of things, as he set up Neres to double Ajax’s lead.

The Dutch champions continued to dominate, with Real Madrid being forced into two changes in the first half. Gareth Bale was brought on for Lucas Vazquez, before Marco Asensio also replaced Vinicius Junior.

But despite the double substitution from Madrid, it was the away side who scored the third goal. Having set up the first two goals, Tadic was on hand to make it 3-0 to Ajax in the 62nd minute. However, Asensio pulled one back in the 70th minute to give Los Blancos a glimmer of hope.

Two minutes later, though, that hope was totally shattered after Schone made it 4-1 to Ajax. Despite a late fight back, there was nothing Real Madrid could do to change the score, as they lost 5-3 on aggregate.

The result means Madrid have been eliminated from the Champions League, while Ajax have advanced to the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, it also ends the Spanish side’s consecutive triumphs in Europe, having won the competition for the past three years.

On the flipside, social media has experienced a meltdown following Madrid’s elimination from the Champions League. Football fans across the globe have wasted little time in giving their opinions concerning the game.

There are other rival fans who have also found joy in trolling the European champions. Here are some of the best tweets:
