Liverpool finished their Premier League campaign this season with a 2-0 win against Wolves at Anfield only to finish second to Manchester City. The Reds earned as many as 97 points over the 38-match campaign and still came second to Pep Guardiola’s side, who thrashed Brighton 4-1 at the Amex stadium to retain the Premier League title.

It all looked well for Liverpool when Sadio Mané opened the scoring for the Reds at the 17th minute of the game and Murray broke the deadlock for Brighton at Amex at the 27th minute mark, but Liverpool’s dream of lifting the famous trophy for the first time since it’s refurbishment back in 1992, faded away with two quick goals from Manchester City in Brighton.

Although, again, Mané doubled the lead at the Merseyside to secure the three points, Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan’s second half strikes extended City’s lead to three goals and ensured Guardiola’s second title as a manager for the Blues.

However, Jürgen Klopp’s men should hold their head high, as they fought till the end and pushed Man City to the limits. To put things into more perspective, 97 points in any other season apart from 2017-18 would have earned them their much-awaited domestic league crown but this time on, Pep Guardiola’s men won 14 matches on bounces to beat the Reds to the title.

The Reds can also consider themselves unlucky, as no side ever in the history of the Premier League has lost only one game during the course of the campaign and not won the title.

However, Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp has heaped praise on his players after the game. Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, the German manager has also congratulated Manchester City for their outstanding achievement.

"An outstanding season. We had a proper competitor and well done to them – they have 198 points in two seasons which is incredible,” he insisted.
"We made a much bigger jump development wise. The boys pushed themselves to new levels, which I love, and that development and improvement is not finished,” he also added.

Meanwhile, the Twitteraties have hailed Liverpool for their incredible push to win the Premier League title this season.
