Barcelona inflicted Atletico Madrid's fifth defeat in the La Liga this campaign with their 2-0 win last night. Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi netted a goal apiece in the dying minute of the match to extend the lead of the Catalan giants to 11 points at the top of the table.

Barcelona will next face Manchester United in the Champions League, with the La Liga almost done and dusted. With just seven games to go, it seems unnatural that any team will stop the Blaugrana from lifting their fifth league title in seven years.

Diego Simeone and his team came into a must-win match while looking for its first-ever victory against Barcelona in the Nou Camp. Despite starting well and matching Barcelona in the first phase of the match, Atletico Madrid failed to dominate after they were a man down around the 30th minute.

Former Chelsea striker Costa was shown a straight red card for the 4th time in his career for abusing the official, which tilted the game heavily towards the Blaugrana. Atletico goalie, Jan Oblak, seemed the only thing keeping the scores level with some superb saves till Suarez found the back of the net in 85th minute.

Just after the goal, Lionel Messi found space on the right and beat two defenders and Jan Oblak in a sensational manner to seal the match. It was Argentine's 33rd goal in the league this season, which extends his lead in the race for European Golden Shoe.

After the game, Valverde told the press how important the win was and also reminded his team that the league hasn't been won yet.

It's a very important three points. We're closer to the title but we still don't have it; the job has to be finished.
Today was an important match because it meant a lot. We're happy because the opponent is second in the table and they're a great team who fought until the end with a man less."

Meanwhile, Messi's goal was pure genius as Gimenez failed to stop him with his tackles and the sweet turn from the Argentine genius was unstoppable. Jan Oblak was helpless as Messi doubled the lead to seal the game and almost, the La Liga.
