Chelsea beat Tottenham Hotspurs on Wednesday by a scoreline of 2-0 at Stamford Bridge, thanks to goals from Pedro Rodriguez and an own goal from Kieran Trippier.

In the first half, Chelsea made a brighter start than their opponents and pegged Tottenham back. Gonzalo Higuain's shot hit the crossbar and he had a shot go past the post early on. However, the Blues were unable to sustain that pressure and it allowed Spurs to get back into the match. Just like Higuain, Harry Winks saw his bullet shot from a distance rattle the crossbar. Chelsea had responded very well from their Carabao Cup final loss just days ago and in the second half, they proved their worth.

After the break, Chelsea started on top again. This time they made Spurs pay. Pedro scored Chelsea's first goal after Cesar Azpilicueta found him down the channel on the right. The second goal was a very unfortunate goal for Spurs to give away. Due to a miscommunication between Hugo Lloris and Kieran Trippier, the ball ended into the back of the net. Trippier attempted a simple back pass to Lloris, but the Englishman's pass was too heavy and it went in for Chelsea's second goal. After scoring the second, it was all about seeing the game to the end and Chelsea did just that to get back to winning ways.

Maurizio Sarri would be very happy with his team's performance after that incident with Kepa Arrizabalaga, who was dropped for this match. For Spurs, this was their second consecutive defeat in the EPL. The result meant that the Lillywhites may be out the title race this season.

Over the weekend, Chelsea play Fulham next at Craven Cottage as they look to put a consistent run of form. While Spurs play Arsenal in the North London Derby. Things are not getting any easier for Spurs though. Here was how Twitter reacted to Chelsea beating Tottenham Hotspurs.
