Liverpool is on the brink of exiting the UEFA Champions League following Wednesday’s 2-1 loss at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain. Jurgen Klopp’s side went into the encounter sitting on second place in Group C, however, they were left reeling after making a poor start to the game.

It took just 13 minutes for PSG to open the scoring, with Juan Bernat ghosting past the Liverpool defence to score. The Spaniard continued to look lively on the left, but it was Neymar who doubled the French side’s lead in the 37th minute.

The Brazilian superstar benefitted from a fine pass from Edison Cavani to put PSG 2-0 up against the Reds. Liverpool were, however, handed a quick lifeline after winning a penalty deep into injury time in the first half.

James Milner subsequently stepped up to make it 2-1 heading into the break. The second half started with much more fireworks from both sides, as the game took on a physical outlook. But despite pressing for longer periods, Liverpool could still not find a way past the PSG defence.

Klopp opted to bring on Naby Keita, Shaqiri and Daniel Sturridge in a bid to go more direct, however, there was very little his substitutes could do to change the result.

The 2-1 loss by Liverpool leaves Group C very wide open, with all top three teams currently with a chance to progress. As it stands, though, Napoli sit top with 9 points, PSG follow in second-place with 8 points, while Liverpool sits two points further.

The result also leaves the Reds on the brink of exiting the Champions League, with Napoli and PSG now holding a huge advantage to advance to the round of 16.

Football fans on Twitter has since wasted little time in giving their views on the outcome of the PSG vs Liverpool game.
