Manchester City have moved to the top of the Premier League table following a hard-fought 2-0 win over Everton on Wednesday. Pep Guardiola’s side went into the game knowing how important a win would be and they did just enough to get all three points.Goals from Aymeric Laporte and Gabriel Jesus in the dying minutes of either half were all that separated Man City from Everton. The Cityzens have been given renewed hope in the Premier League title race following Liverpool’s recent slump in form. The Reds have drawn their last two league games and, by so doing, have blown the title race wide. However, City took full advantage by recording a very important victory against the Toffees. The Manchester club started the game rather slowly and were blunt upfront for most parts of the first half. However, Laporte – playing as a makeshift left-back – put them in the lead with just a minute to the end of the half. Marco Silva’s side stepped up their game in the second half but were constantly thwarted by the City defence. On a day when Everton boss Marco Silva decided to bench both Gyilfi Sigurdsson and Richarlison, the decision came back to haunt the Merseyside outfit who lacked bite in the final third. City were not that impressive either but managed to double their lead through Jesus deep into stoppage time. The result means Manchester City have now moved top of the Premier League table on a goal difference (City are still level on points with Liverpool who have a game in hand).Meanwhile, football fans have wasted no time in flooding social media with trolls and various comments regarding the game. For Liverpool fans, this was not what they hoped for, but for other rival fans, the result couldn’t have been better.Let’s take a look at some of the best tweets as Man City beat Everton 2-0 to go top of the Premier League: “You’ll sit in 2nd place after City defeat Everton you crybaby. Obviously not, Everton fans celebrated when City scored against the team they support. 🤷🏼‍♀️🙈 pic.twitter.com/6rQy2b1pjv— Forever Boleyn (@ForeverBoleyn) February 6, 2019How @fiifianaman and co are watching the Man City/ Everton game. 😅 pic.twitter.com/U29yrRD651— Juliet Bawuah (@julietbawuah) February 6, 2019#EVEMCI Well done Everton, the pride of the rest of the Premier League! pic.twitter.com/c2Odec2kC1— Ste (@CFC_Ste) February 6, 2019When you realise Man Utd fans will be supporting City tonight & Liverpool fans will be supporting Everton & Everton fans will be supporting City.. 😂😂😂 pic.twitter.com/32yjypGn6Z— Man Utd Empire (@Empire_Mu) February 6, 2019Everton didn’t allow Man city to score in the first half .. #EVEMCI pic.twitter.com/SVnNHONwP9— Arsene H (@Arsene1034) February 6, 2019Manuel what position are Liverpool in? pic.twitter.com/diSjXjghxa— Prince Kompany 🇧🇪 (@PrinceKompany) February 6, 2019City fans after not singing about Liverpool for five minutes pic.twitter.com/y118606Ylg— the most scouse canadian you’ll meet (@trentyvandijk) February 6, 2019How every team should play against Man City for the rest of the season. pic.twitter.com/N637iMAljz— Jake Peralta (@LukeUnitedd) February 6, 2019Sky Sports when City go top vs when Liverpool go top 🙄 pic.twitter.com/iR4DqFabDH— Hotspur Army (@HotspurArmy) February 6, 2019Liverpool hand picking match officials to the end of the season 😂 #Coys #THFC pic.twitter.com/xAu7Zin2e8— Billy Cairns (@Billytheyid70) February 6, 2019Jurgen Klopp’s answer to “ Man City won 2-0 V Everton how do you feel about that result?” pic.twitter.com/3PnHats6QV— Nobles Pot Noodle (@NoblesPotNoodle) February 6, 2019#WaitsiPainYao knowing that my team , Liverpool has just surrendered the epl log lead to Man City pic.twitter.com/zWIT7cNgLy— Makaveli the kopite (@scotworldwide) February 6, 2019
