Manchester United has dumped Arsenal out of the FA Cup after handing the Gunners a 3-1 defeat on Sunday evening at the Emirates. The Red Devils continued with their fine form under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, recording what is now the club’s eighth straight win under the caretaker manager.

Goals from Alexis Sanchez, Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial, sandwiched by a consolation from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, were enough to see United advance to the next stage of the FA Cup.

Having defeated Chelsea last week, Arsenal started on a high and took the game to their Manchester opponents. The Gunners continued to dominate in terms of possession but it was United who opened the scoring against the run of play.

A neat interchange of play allowed Romelu Lukaku to play Sanchez through and the Chilean duly rounded Petr Cech before putting the Red Devils ahead. Two minutes later, United doubled their lead through Lingard – Lukaku again turning provider.

The Belgian led a swift counter-attacking move before cutting the ball back for Lingard to coolly slot home. However, there was more drama to come as Aubameyang halved the deficit right on the stroke of half time.

The second half began similarly to the first, with Arsenal dominating proceedings. And the Gunners nearly snatched the equaliser through Aaron Ramsey but his effort was saved by the impressive Sergio Romero. Unfortunately, though, things went from bad to worse for Emery’s side as United got their third goal on the night.

Paul Pogba’s shot was saved by Cech but substitute Anthony Martial was on hand to tap in to make it 3-1. The result means Manchester United have now progressed to the fifth round of the FA Cup, while Arsenal would have to wait till next season to have another shot in the competition.

In the meantime, football fans have flooded Twitter with their comments and trolls on the game.
