Tottenham Hotspur handed Chelsea a 1-0 defeat in the first-leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final on Wednesday night.

Playing at their adopted Wembley home ground, Spurs went all guns blazing from the start, and were duly rewarded midway through the first-half when Harry Kane netted the opener. The England striker raced through on goal, but was brought down in the penalty box by Kepa Arrizabalaga.

From the resulting penalty, Kane stepped up to put Mauricio Pochettino’s men in front. For larger parts, the game went exactly like it did when Tottenham faced Chelsea in the Premier League some weeks ago, with Spurs having complete control of proceedings.

However, the Blues came in very strong towards the end of the first-half, and could have snatched an equaliser, but for Hudson-Odoi’s effort hitting the bar. The Bayern Munich target whipped in a sweet cross which ricocheted off Danny Rose, but Gazzaniga reacted quickest to clear after the ball bounced off the bar.

Chelsea continued to dominate in the second half, but a combination of wastefulness and tight defending from Spurs kept them at bay. The result means this is the second time this season Tottenham have beaten Chelsea, with Pochettino’s side handing the Blues a 3-1 defeat in the Premier League back in December.

It also means that Spurs will hold a slim advantage ahead of the second leg of the Carabao Cup to be played at Stamford Bridge. But before then, the world of Twitter has wasted no time in having their say on the game.

As usual, the winning team gets all the praise while the losing side gets to be trolled heavily. So without further ado, lets get into some of the best tweets following Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Chelsea in the Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg.
