Arsenal levelled the score twice after Manchester City took the lead in either half

The race for the Premier League’s top four spots saw a twist as Arsenal held Manchester City to a 2-2 draw at the Etihad on Sunday to take the Sky Blues’ Champions League qualification hopes out of their hands. The result leaves Manchester United, with a game in hand, in the driver’s seat for the time being as they look to leapfrog their ‘noisy neighbours’ if they can beat West Ham on Tuesday night.

As always, Twitter did not spare both teams who are vying for Champions League spots instead of battling it out for the title. When the schedule was released before the season, this fixture was billed as a potential decider – not one to decide which teams get into the Champions League.

Here are a few tweets which caught our eye.

Stats that matter

A lot of praise was reserved for Alexis Sanchez who, despite having a “poor season”, has come up with the goods at the business end of the season to score his 17th goal of the campaign. Olivier Giroud also broke his goal scoring drought to score his first league goal since January (a brace against Liverpool).

Meanwhile, Manchester City will finish the season without a single win against any of the other top five sides. Regarded as one of the favourites to win the title before this season, the only thing they can take heart from is their Champions League run that saw them reach the semi-final. Oh, and a League Cup triumph too.

But they will take heart in Kevin De Bruyne justifying his price tag. Bought for £55m, he has proven his worth with 7 goals and 9 assists in an injury-hit season.
