A third Catalan derby meeting between Espanyol and Barcelona in the span of nearly three weeks ended in a stalemate at the Cornella El Prat. The torrid weather conditions played spoilsport as the pitch had become waterlogged which affected the ball movement. Barcelona were controlling the game despite the poor playing conditions but Espanyol converted on their first major opportunity of the game. A cross from Sergio Garcia was headed in by Gerard Moreno in the 66th minute. But as usual, Messi proved to be the difference maker delivering a sublime ball off a free kick which was nodded in by Gerard Pique in the 82nd minute. His celebration caused a massive rage among the Espanyol fans as it was directed towards due to the disrespect Pique has received which has been intended towards his family. Here's how Twitter reacted:You can literally swim in this rain bruh #EspanyolBarça— Fatima (@Fato0m_967) February 4, 2018Few more minutes and the derby would turn into a rugby. 😂#EspanyolBarça— 👑 King Leo 👑 (@StevenRifat8) February 4, 2018Gerard Moreno has scored 9 of Espanyol's 19 goals this season. A late penalty claim by Sergio Garcia was denied by the referee as it was clearly evident that he fell to ground easily. The draw still keeps Barcelona miles ahead at the top: 19 points clear of 4th placed Real Madrid. Barca also extended their unbeaten run to 22 games in La Liga and edge closer towards breaking the record held by the Los Blancos.
