Team: FC Bayern MunichJupp Heynckes claimed the fifth European Cup in the Allianz Arena club’s history as Bayern Munich defeated Borussia Dortmund 2-1 in an all-German final at Wembley. Philippe Mexes of AC Milan won the best goal of the season for his stunning strike away to RSC Anderlecht. The French centre-back had scored a goal from 20 metres out after conjuring a brilliant overhead kick that went in to the far corner. This was his first goal since March 2011.

Result: FC Barcelona 0-7 FC Bayern MunchenThe 7-0 victory of Bayern Munich against Barcelona is the biggest aggregate win in a UEFA Champions League semi-final. It was also the first time in 26 years that Barcelona had lost both legs of a European tie.

Moment: Ivan Krstanovic (GNK Dinamo Zagreb)RC Deportivo La Coruna and Maccabi Haifa FC are the only sides not to scored in the group stages. Dinamo were about to be added to the list as they lost their first five group games without scoring. However, it was Krstanovic who won and scored a penalty at home to FC Dynamo Kyiv in the dying minutes of the game to prevent Dinamo some blushes.

Coach: Jurgen Klopp (Borussia Dortmund)

Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp proved to be the best man in Europe this year. Since joining Dortmund in 2008, Klopp has transformed his side to the point where some even considered them to be the favourites to win this year’s Champions League.

Save(s): Christian Abbiati (AC Milan) Christian Abbiati of AC Milan got the special praise for his string of unbelievable stops at FC Zenit St Petersburg on matchday two.

Surprise package: Galatasaray A?Galatasaray surprised many after a disappointing start, where they only had one point after three games. With some excellent performances by Turkish striker Burak Yìlmaz including a hat trick away to Cluj, Galatasaray found a way to get second place in their group.

Newcomer: Isco (Malaga CF)

Isco of Malaga CF has been named the newcomer of the season as the Spaniard showed some great talent throughout the season. The 21-year-old midfielder, who recorded three goals and fours assists in eight games, has a notable control on the ball and even better finishing.

Cristiano Ronaldo was the top scorer for the 2012/13 season of the UEFA Champions League with 12 goals, and the Portuguese ace made his 100th appearance for his country during the season.
