Chelsea put in a dominant show at the Stamford Bridge as they cruised to a 6-0 victory over minnows Maribor in their group stage clash in the Champions League.
Blues legend Didier Drogba scored his first goal for the club since scoring the winner in 2012 final while Eden Hazard netted twice to ensure a comfortable win for manager Jose Mourinho. Veteran defender John Terry and Diego Costa’s replacement Loic Remy also found the net to inflict misery on the visitors.
Remy scored the opener in the 13th minute but had to be taken off after suffering a groin injury allowing Drogba to come on as his replacement. The Ivorian doubled his side’s lead by converting from the spot in the 23rd minute.
John Terry surprisingly netted the third from a superb combined move involving Hazard and Cesc Fabregas. Hazard made it 4-0 for the hosts before Maribor missed the chance to get one back for themselves from the penalty spot.
Hazard punished the Slovenians further in the 90th minute after slotting home his second and Chelsea’s sixth of the night.
